New Orleans is starting Wednesday, November 4, with a warm, sticky morning near 73 degrees and mostly clear skies, but the forecast has a little weather whiplash in store. Patchy fog could hang around before 9 a.m., and showers and thunderstorms are possible overnight into Wednesday morning as a front moves through; then the sky should turn mostly sunny again.

The National Weather Service’s New Orleans/Baton Rouge office puts the high near 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Hoodline’s forecast gives Wednesday afternoon showers a 30% chance. Winds will turn northwest with the Wednesday-morning front, making this more of a brief-shower nuisance than a washout for the city.

Fog Is The Bigger Morning Headache North Of The Lake

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 8 a.m. Wednesday for parts of the Northshore and coastal Mississippi, where visibility could fall to a quarter-mile or less. New Orleans proper is forecast for patchy fog rather than the region’s worst conditions, but drivers heading toward the lake crossings or Mississippi coast should allow extra time and use low beams.

Thursday Looks Like The Reset Button

Once Wednesday’s front clears, Thursday, November 5, should be sunny with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and morning lows in the upper 50s and low 60s closer to the coast. Friday stays fairly mild at about 77 degrees under partly sunny skies, although another weak front may bring a few showers mainly south of Interstate 10.

The bigger change arrives Friday night into Saturday, when a stronger front pushes in and ushers out the lingering humidity. Saturday should top out near 73 with a north wind of 5 to 10 mph, while overnight temperatures fall to around 54.

Cooler, Drier Weekend On Tap

Sunday brings a slight chance of morning showers before turning mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Monday looks sunny with a high near 70, while generally dry conditions and temperatures near seasonal averages are expected into early next week.

That puts Wednesday’s warm 80-degree high on track to be the last gasp of the muggy stretch. As Hoodline reported Tuesday, the pattern was already leaning toward cooler air; the newest forecast fills in the timing, with the sharper cooldown arriving this weekend.
