A man who had been shot crashed his gray sedan into another vehicle near DART’s Ledbetter Station in Dallas on Thursday afternoon, and he later died at a hospital. A second person was also hospitalized, and police say no arrests have been made.
Dallas police were called to the crash at East Ledbetter Drive and South Lancaster Road around 3:20 p.m. Thursday, according to FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth. A preliminary investigation led police to believe the driver of the gray sedan crashed into another vehicle after being shot, the station reported. Officers who arrived at the scene found the driver suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and he was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to WFAA.
The driver died at the hospital, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue, as reported by WFAA. A second person involved was also taken to a hospital, though that person’s condition remains unknown, and police have not released additional information about them. At this point, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, FOX 4 reported.
Crash Blocks Tracks, Disrupts Blue Line Service
The crash left the victim’s gray sedan blocking the train tracks near Ledbetter Station, snarling DART’s Blue Line during the investigation, per the same FOX 4 report. Shuttle buses were brought in to help transport riders between the Ledbetter and VA Medical Center stations while crews worked the scene. A DART spokesperson told WFAA that the incident did not occur on DART property and was unrelated to DART operations, even as the transit agency worked to minimize disruptions through single-tracking.
A Similar Scramble Played Out at Another Station
The Ledbetter incident echoes a separate shooting investigation near DART’s Camp Wisdom Station in Oak Cliff, though the two cases’ circumstances differ. In that incident, DART police led the investigation, and one person was hospitalized in stable condition while another suffered a minor injury while leaving the area, according to DART, as reported by NBC DFW. DART also arranged a bus shuttle between Ledbetter and UNT stations during that police activity, the outlet noted — a similar workaround to the one riders faced Thursday.
No details have emerged publicly about who fired the shot that preceded Thursday’s crash, or why. Dallas police continue to investigate, and the identity of the second hospitalized person has not been released.
