Officers Found Victim Around 10:20 A.M.
Officers were at Springfair Run where they found the victim around 10:20 a.m. Monday, per a report from WSB-TV. The station reported that the victim, whose identity had not been shared, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The station's report also noted that homicide detectives said they want to speak with a 22-year-old man they describe as related to the victim, in order to determine his actions during the shooting. No Suspect Named, No Charges Confirmed
Authorities have not released details about the suspected shooter beyond the fact that investigators are seeking a 22-year-old, and it remains unclear whether that individual has been located, arrested, or formally identified as the person who fired the fatal shot. The exact relationship between the victim and the 22-year-old sought by detectives has also not been spelled out beyond the description that he is related to the victim.
DeKalb County's own guidance on how such cases are classified underscores why so much remains unresolved this early in an investigation. The county's 2023 Annual Report states that a homicide classification is used for death certification purposes and does not indicate or imply criminal intent, with any determination of intent made later through the legal process.
No further information about the victim, the weapon involved, or the precise circumstances leading up to the shooting has been made available. DeKalb County police have not announced any arrests connected to the case as the investigation continues.
