Del City police arrested a 30-year-old man after dispatchers received reports that he was walking around a neighborhood naked. Officers later found him inside a home and Tased him after he darted through a window. Britt Hammons now faces multiple charges stemming from the encounter, including resisting an officer and indecent exposure.
According to KFOR, the incident began when dispatchers started fielding complaints about a man's behavior in the neighborhood. Lt. Blake Reichert told the station, “Our dispatch began receiving calls about a male that was walking around exposing his genitalia and masturbating.” When officers first responded, Hammons was nowhere to be found.
A Window, a Neighbor, and a Standoff
Officers' search didn't end there. A second 911 call eventually steered police to a nearby home, where a neighbor reported seeing Hammons dash inside. Body-camera footage from the scene, released by police, shows officers checking a window, opening it, and discovering Hammons hiding inside the residence.
The body-camera video is part of a broader category of records the public can seek from Del City police. The department’s records office accepts requests for body-camera footage, incident reports, dispatch logs, photographs, audio and 911 calls, though some records may be withheld or redacted under applicable law. The department describes its records-request process and lists fees that may apply to recordings and other materials.
What followed was a tense standoff. Police ordered Hammons to come outside, but he refused to comply for several minutes, according to the report. Hammons then darted out a window and into the backyard, where an officer deployed a taser to bring him down before he was taken into custody.
Charges Pile Up, Including a Mystery Substance
Reichert said Hammons was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on charges of resisting an officer, two counts of indecent exposure, and public intoxication. Police also said he dropped a container holding a white, powdery substance during the arrest and will face additional charges tied to that find, though the exact nature of the substance has not been specified.
Del City’s published use-of-force policy says officers may use only the force that reasonably appears necessary under the circumstances, judged from the perspective of an officer at the scene. It also directs officers to intervene when they can if another officer’s force is clearly unreasonable and to report force that may exceed policy. The department’s policy manual provides the local standard for evaluating force; it does not by itself establish whether the Taser use in Hammons’ arrest complied with that standard.
Oklahoma’s indecent-exposure law requires proof that a person knowingly and willfully exposed themselves lewdly in a public place or where others were present to be offended or annoyed; the charge is not defined as nudity alone. The state’s current statute sets out that standard, which prosecutors would have to prove in court for a conviction.
Hammons' bond has been set at $50,000, police said. No further details on the case's path through the courts have been released.
