A man was killed in a law-enforcement-involved shooting on Conners Road in Douglas County shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday. WSB-TV later identified him as Bradley Cox. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office requested the GBI investigation, according to 95.5 WSB. The Douglas County Coroner's Office was called to a shooting on Conners Road just after 12:45 a.m., WSB-TV reported. Atlanta News First, citing the GBI, reported that a deputy was involved.
What is known
Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting. Reports say the GBI and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are investigating; the GBI has not publicly described the circumstances preceding the shooting.
Beyond the reported involvement of a deputy and Cox’s identification, the available accounts provide no further details about what happened before the shooting or who else was involved.
A separate fatal case in the GBI’s 2025 list
The GBI’s 2025 officer-involved shootings list records a separate incident on Jan. 7, 2025, in Fulton County, at Lee Street in Atlanta. It lists Robert Douglas Smith, 32, as the subject and marks the subject fatality “yes.” That entry alone does not establish statewide annual totals or how often such shootings result in a death.
How the GBI investigates these cases
The investigation is active and ongoing, and the case file will go to the district attorney after completion.
The GBI has documented other officer-involved shootings in Douglas County. In a separate July 26, 2023, case, the agency reported that one man was shot and received medical treatment and that no deputies were injured. In a separate Douglasville case on Oct. 4, 2025, the GBI reported a woman’s death and a related officer-involved shooting in which one man was injured and no officers were injured.
