Firefighters used the jaws of life to free the trapped driver. Manchester Fire paramedics transported them to Beverly Hospital.
The response drew personnel from multiple agencies. Essex Fire, Essex Police, Manchester by the Sea Fire, and Manchester by the Sea Police were all dispatched to the crash scene, per the same account. Fire Department Credits Mutual Aid
The department thanked mutual-aid partners and public-safety personnel for their assistance and coordinated response to the crash.
Friday's crash is not the only recent instance of a vehicle leaving a North Shore roadway. In a separate incident, Essex Fire Department and police responded to a Friday-night crash on Eastern Avenue in which a vehicle left the roadway and collided with a house under renovation, according to nbcboston.com. In that case, the driver was also the sole occupant and was taken by Boston MedFlight to a Boston-area trauma center because of the severity of their injuries, the outlet reported, noting that officials had not said what caused that vehicle to leave the roadway. A building inspector was called to assess the house, which sustained considerable damage in the crash, per the same report.
No further details on the cause of the Southern Avenue crash or the condition of the driver have been released.
