A former coach at several Cape Cod rowing clubs was taken into custody in the Bronx on Thursday, accused of raping a child during his time coaching on the Cape. Guy Monseair, 57, now faces four counts of aggravated statutory rape of a child and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and he is being held pending extradition to Massachusetts.
The charges stem from Monseair’s time with the Cape Cod rowing organizations, according to The Boston Globe. During that investigation, detectives learned that Monseair had relocated and was residing in the Bronx, where he was coaching at another rowing club, according to Capecod.com.
Warrant Granted, Arrest Follows a Day Later
A Barnstable police detective applied for and was granted an arrest warrant for Monseair through Barnstable District Court on Wednesday, per the same account. He was taken into custody in the Bronx the following day.
The Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois's office is prosecuting the case. Monseair's professional profile had identified him as head coach and executive director at City Island Rowing in the Bronx.
