A stretch of Symmes Road in Fairfield remained closed Sunday after a pre-dawn crash sent power lines crashing down onto a second vehicle, flipping it onto its side. No injuries were reported in the chain-reaction wreck, but the road has stayed shut while crews work to untangle the mess.
According to FOX19, emergency crews responded around 4:43 a.m. to the eastbound lanes of Symmes Road after one vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, bringing down power lines. WDTN, however, reported that the two vehicles were traveling east at approximately 4:40 a.m., a slight discrepancy in timing between the two accounts.
The downed wires then struck a second vehicle, causing it to overturn onto its driver's side in the middle of the road, the station's report states. Despite the dramatic scene, no injuries were reported from the crash.
Road Closed Between Bilstein Boulevard and North Gilmore Road
Symmes Road is closed between Bilstein Boulevard and North Gilmore Road while utility crews work to repair the damaged pole and lines, per the same account. Nearby residents may experience temporary power outages during the repairs as crews work to restore the downed lines.
It is unknown when the road will reopen, and drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes in the meantime. The closure affects a key stretch of the east-west corridor through Fairfield, leaving commuters to find detours around the work zone.
