A 72-year-old Fayetteville man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the vintage sports car he was driving was struck by a Toyota Corolla at a four-way intersection in Mont Alto Borough. Juan G. Martin died at the scene after his 1959 Austin-Healey Sprite collided with a car driven by 49-year-old John W. Mason of Waynesboro.

The crash happened around 4:07 p.m. at the intersection of South Main, North Main, Ash and Park streets in the Franklin County borough, according to Tri-State Alert. Martin was driving his Austin-Healey Sprite north on South Main Street along State Route 997, while Mason was heading south on North Main Street in a 2016 Toyota Corolla, the outlet reported.

Left Turn Led to Fatal Collision

Investigators say Martin was attempting to make a left turn onto Ash Street when Mason's Toyota struck his vehicle. The impact hit the Austin-Healey at approximately the 3 o'clock position, causing the small sports car to spin before it came to rest on South Main Street, per the police account relayed by the same outlet. Mason's Toyota continued south and came to an uncontrolled stop on the shoulder of South Main Street.

Martin suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was not transported to a hospital, the report states. Mason sustained suspected minor injuries but also was not taken for medical treatment, according to the same account.

Emergency Crews Respond to the Scene

The Franklin County Coroner's Office responded to the scene, along with Mont Alto Fire and EMS and volunteer fire police personnel, the report notes. The crash is documented under Pennsylvania State Police case number PA 2026-1397988, per the same account.
