A fight at a Griffin home spiraled into gunfire late last week when a man allegedly grabbed a gun from his vehicle and fired at another man as he ran for his life. Police say the chaos at Walden Point didn’t end with the shots — it also led to a search warrant, a recovered firearm, and a mother’s arrest for getting in officers’ way.
According to WSB-TV, Griffin officers responded to Walden Point around 5:35 p.m. on Oct. 29 after receiving reports of a person armed with a weapon and shots fired. Police said Travis Walker, Kaniyah Clark and Janyla Garrett had gone to the home of Miguel Bullard and Truita Walker, where a verbal argument escalated into a physical fight.
Once the fight was broken up, police said Travis Walker went to a vehicle, retrieved a gun and fired multiple rounds toward Bullard as he ran from the scene. Investigators later executed a search warrant at Travis Walker’s home and recovered a gun believed to have been used in the shooting, the station’s report says. The investigation remains ongoing, per the same account.
A Mother Steps In — and Gets Arrested
As officers worked the scene, a woman identified as the mother of one of the people involved showed up and began interfering with their investigation, according to police. That woman, Alvina Garrett, was arrested and charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, the outlet’s report notes.
The fallout from the altercation spread well beyond the shooting itself. Miguel Bullard was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation, while Travis Walker faces an aggravated assault charge tied to the gunfire. Kaniyah Clark, Janyla Garrett and Truita Walker were each charged with affray, stemming from the brawl that set the entire incident in motion, according to WSB-TV.
Echoes of an Earlier, Deadlier Case
The Walden Point address isn’t unfamiliar to Griffin’s crime blotter. Back in 2020, a separate report from The GRIP detailed an overnight shooting at the similarly named Walden Pointe Apartments on Carver Road in Griffin that left a victim dead. Then-Griffin Police Chief Mike Yates said at the time that the investigation into that killing was active and ongoing, and no suspects were in custody when that report published.
It remains unclear whether the October 29 shooting happened at the same property referenced in the 2020 case. What is clear is that Griffin police are once again working to piece together exactly what happened after a fight turned violent, with no word yet on whether Bullard was struck by gunfire or what comes next for those charged.
