Austun Blagg, 30, was booked into Beaver County Jail after an alleged assault in Guymon left a man hospitalized in critical condition. Investigators say Blagg struck the victim in the head with a baseball bat during an altercation.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation

said the Guymon Police Department requested its assistance after a Monday-evening incident. Officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. near NE 18th Street and North Main Street in Guymon and found an adult male with an apparent head injury.

The victim was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital in critical condition, the OSBI said. Investigators determined that Blagg struck the victim in the head with a baseball bat after the two had been involved in an altercation.

Special Agents Interviewed Blagg Before His Arrest

OSBI special agents interviewed Blagg and gathered evidence during the investigation, according to News 9. Blagg was arrested Tuesday evening and booked into Beaver County Jail on a complaint of assault and battery by means likely to cause death, the station reported.

The OSBI described the case as an ongoing investigation.

Several Agencies Pitched In On the Investigation

The case also involved assistance from the Texas County Sheriff's Office, the District 1 Drug Task Force, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The agency said Blagg, like anyone accused of a crime, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Statewide assault figures

For statewide context, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported 10,892 aggravated assault offenses and 12,523 victims in Oklahoma in 2021. Those statewide totals do not establish how Texas County compares with the rest of Oklahoma.

The OSBI shared news of the arrest in a post on X, writing simply, “GUYMON MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING ASSAULT INVESTIGATION.” No further details about the victim's identity, age, or condition beyond critical have been released as the investigation continues.
