Harbor Picture Company has opened a sprawling new flagship studio in Manhattan's Hudson Square neighborhood, packing three Dolby Atmos mix stages, six colour suites, seven sound editorial rooms, and five VFX Flame rooms into a single post-production hub. The facility also houses two theatrical colour grading rooms, two 7.1 surround mixing stages, two animation and design suites, and three ADR/voice-over booths.
The opening, reported by LBB, marks a significant expansion of Harbor's New York presence. Harbor has championed a collaborative approach to post-production since 2012, and the new space was designed by BR Design Associates to unite artists working across colour, sound, visual effects, editorial, and finishing in one connected creative environment. The studios are meant to give filmmakers, creatives, and craft artists a shared space to work from concept through final delivery, all in Hudson Square.
Harbor's Expansion Brings Artists and Tools Together
Massimo D'Avolio said the expansion brings Harbor's artists, tools, and disciplines closer together, and that the company invests in technology specifically to support the creative process. He added that Harbor has always prioritized artists.
Harbor's footprint now spans New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, and London, and the company's artist roster has worked on Apple TV's Widow's Bay, A24's Primetime and The Invite, Netflix's East of Eden, and Neon's Paper Tiger. Harbor artists have also collaborated with filmmakers including Martin Scorsese, Lance Oppenheim, Rob Marshall, Ron Howard, Olivia Wilde, Alex Gibney, and James Gray.
A Pattern of Expansion Across Harbor's Network
This is not Harbor's first build-out. The company previously launched Harbor Grand, described by postPerspective as a multi-million-dollar studio dedicated to theatrical audio mixing. That same report quoted Empire State Development's Howard Zemsky citing an earlier Harbor expansion from 30 to 65 employees as evidence of the industry's continued growth in New York State. Harbor has also opened ADR studios on Hudson Street in Soho and on Chicago's West Ontario Street in March 2023, following an ADR stage it opened at Turnmills in London's Farringdon neighborhood in December 2022, according to Harbor Picture Company's own announcement.
New York's Production Boom Sets the Backdrop
The Hudson Square opening lands amid a broader surge in New York production activity. Production spending in New York rose 87% to $1.61 billion in the third quarter of 2026, outpacing every other U.S. state, according to Deadline. The outlet also reported that New York City film-permit activity averaged 21% higher from January through September 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, with June through September all registering the highest permit levels since the pre-strike year of 2022.
Deadline's report further noted that New York State has now logged four consecutive quarters of year-over-year production-spending growth beginning in the fourth quarter of 2025. New York's production tax credit was extended through 2036, and the state has signalled a long-term commitment to keeping production work in New York. Deadline reported a base 30% production incentive.
