People considering entering a household cat can take part in A Sparkling Cat Show Spectacular, scheduled for Nov. 21-22 at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in Little Rock. Diamond State Cat Fanciers is hosting the event, which is sanctioned by the Cat Fanciers’ Association, according to KARK.

How household-pet judging works

Household Pet entries are judged on condition, appearance and personality—not pedigree—KARK reports. Other divisions include Championship, Premiership and Kitten. Persians, Maine Coons and Siamese are among the breeds expected, and judges are coming from across the country.

The CFA has officially scored the Household Pet class since the 2015-16 show season, which began May 1, 2015. Under CFA rules, a cat needs a registration number for points to count toward titles and awards, though a household pet may compete without one. A cat’s 100 highest-scoring rings in a season count toward its year-end standing, according to the CFA.

A local adoption benchmark

According to a Dec. 30, 2015, City of Little Rock release, Little Rock Animal Village reported that 814 cats and kittens were adopted that year.

Event schedule and activities

The event schedule reported by KARK calls for eight judging rings each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until judging is finished. Activities also include feline agility on obstacle courses, costume contests on both days, vendors and family-friendly entertainment.

Diamond State Cat Fanciers is a nonprofit that has held annual events since 2022. The club was formed to bring CFA events back to Arkansas after a 21-year absence of cat shows in the state, KARK reports. For participation details, organizers direct interested people to the club’s Facebook page or [email protected], according to KARK.
