Kedai Makan is scheduled to close its restaurant at 1449 E Pine after service on Sunday, November 15, 2026, ending a three-year stay at 15th and Pine. Its Belltown location will remain open, and the owners are exploring a possible Capitol Hill location but have not announced a replacement site.
“Sunday, November 15 will be our last day of service there,” the restaurant said in an announcement reported by CHS Capitol Hill Seattle News.
A Farmers Market Stand Turned Hill Institution
Kedai Makan began about 15 years ago as a stand at the Broadway farmers market, according to the CHS report. Founders Kevin Burzell and Alysson Wilson later established the restaurant on E Olive Way before deciding to step away from the business.
Khampaeng “KP” Panyathong, Joe Ye, and Lucy Ye took over the restaurant and reopened it at 15th and Pine in 2023. The trio had been developing a concept called Money Frog before turning their attention to Kedai Makan. City permits show the Ye team has been the restaurant’s sole owner since 2025.
A Corner With a Long Restaurant Memory
The corner has housed several restaurants: French gastropub Le Zinc preceded Shota Nakajima’s Naka, which later became Adana. Plenty of Clouds also opened at the corner in 2018.
The surrounding blocks have kept shuffling too. Sakana Sushi and Coché Valley both opened nearby in 2023, the same year Kedai Makan moved into its current spot, while Stitch Cafe has since closed its E Pine location. A separate 2024 CHS report detailed how the Kedai Makan team was simultaneously readying a Belltown expansion, with permit records showing upgrades underway at a 1st Avenue space where the restaurant Lai Rai had closed the previous summer.
Other Capitol Hill restaurant exits
Recent departures have had different outcomes. CHS reported that The Jilted Siren was closing its Bellevue Avenue location in December 2024 while considering a possible reopening elsewhere. In November 2025, CHS reported that Skillet closed its E Union diner as part of a chain downsizing, while its Seattle Center Armory and Sea-Tac Airport locations continued operating. That report did not describe a search for another Capitol Hill site. MyNorthwest reported that Stateside, a separate Capitol Hill restaurant, was no longer in service by August 2025. That differed from Kedai Makan’s announced departure from one address while its Belltown restaurant remains open.
For now, the only certainty is the calendar: Capitol Hill diners have until November 15 to get in a final bowl of Roti Jala at 1449 E Pine, with the Belltown location picking up the torch and Capitol Hill's future for Kedai Makan still unwritten.
