Knoxville starts Monday under cloudy skies and temperatures near 50 degrees, but the day is expected to turn into a comfortable 73-degree afternoon. The bigger shift comes later this week: a 79-degree Tuesday gives way to rain likely Wednesday into Thursday, with thunderstorm chances low and at most a few rumbles possible.
Warm, Dry Stretch Holds Through Tuesday
Monday afternoon should bring partial sunshine with little chance of rain, while Monday night stays mostly clear and drops to about 51. Tuesday looks like the warmest day of the stretch, with sunny skies and a high near 79.
The National Weather Service in Morristown says the warm start is tied to a brief stretch of above-normal temperatures before a front crosses the region. Rain is likely Wednesday into Thursday, while thunderstorm chances are low, with at most a few rumbles possible.
Rain Arrives Wednesday And Lingers Thursday
Wednesday night brings rain and a low around 60. Thursday brings another round of showers, a high near 73, and only a slight chance of precipitation before conditions begin to settle.
Rainfall could total roughly a quarter-inch to a half-inch, with locally higher amounts possible, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph in the mountains and foothills from Tuesday night into Thursday afternoon, even though no watches or warnings are currently posted for the Knoxville area.
Cooler, Drier Weekend Follows
Friday turns partly sunny with a high near 71, followed by a cooler weekend in the mid-60s. Saturday night could fall to 43, and Sunday night brings a slight chance of rain with a low around 44, so the weekend forecast looks more like November by the time it arrives.
