Daytona Beach gets one more warm, mostly clear evening Thursday before a dry front nudges cooler, breezier air into Volusia this weekend. Temperatures are near 81 degrees late Thursday afternoon, with little rain expected, but patchy fog and ongoing river flooding remain the bigger concerns for local readers.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a low around 67 Thursday night, with patchy fog developing after 4 a.m. Friday. The fog should lift by around 8 a.m., giving way to mostly sunny skies, a slight chance of showers and a high near 84.
Warm Friday Gives Way To A Breezier Weekend
Friday night stays mild, with a low around 66 and a slight chance of showers. The odds of rain remain low, so most outdoor plans should stay dry despite a few hit-or-miss showers.
Saturday brings sunny skies and a high near 80 as winds shift north/northwest. Sunday will be mostly sunny and a little cooler at about 77 degrees, with winds veering northeast; Monday's high is forecast in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
River Flooding Remains A Separate Safety Concern
The NWS is also warning that flooding remains an active regional hazard even as Daytona's forecast turns mostly dry. River flood warnings are in effect along all St. Johns River forecast points, including DeLand, and levels are expected to continue rising over the next several days.
The latest outlook is a much quieter setup than the heavy-rain threat described in Hoodline's earlier flood-watch report, but high water has not cleared the region. Drivers should avoid flooded roads, and no one should walk or wade through floodwater.
