A driver was rescued early Sunday after his car left a ramp in Linthicum and came to rest about 50 feet down a wooded embankment. Firefighters used ropes to bring him back up to the roadway.
The response began just before 7:30 a.m. at the ramp from Route 295 north to Interstate 195, according to The Baltimore Banner. Lt. Joshua Pfeiffer told the outlet that the car went over an embankment between two guardrails and fell about 50 feet into a wooded area.
Rope rescue brought driver back to roadway
The driver was alone in the car, The Baltimore Banner reported. Firefighters carried out a low-angle rescue, using ropes to pull him from the wooded trench where the vehicle had stopped, according to the outlet.
The Baltimore Banner reported the man suffered only minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, citing Pfeiffer. Troopers from the Glen Burnie barrack also assisted with the response, per a report from The Baltimore Banner, which cited a Maryland State Police spokeswoman.
Vehicle removed after rescue
Crews removed the car from the embankment after the rescue, according to The Baltimore Banner, which cited the state police spokeswoman. Authorities have not released what caused the car to leave the roadway.
Broader roadway context
Maryland’s 2026–2030 Strategic Highway Safety Plan lists roadway departure among its statewide infrastructure safety priorities, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation. The plan does not identify a hazard or cause at this crash site. A separate crash on northbound MD 295 at West Nursery Road in Linthicum Heights on April 6, 2021, involved a car leaving the road and striking a tree, according to Maryland State Police. That incident is separate and does not establish a connection to Sunday’s crash.
