Cloudy skies and muggy air are setting the stage for a stormy Tuesday in Little Rock, with showers and thunderstorms expected to build through the morning. The temperature is hovering around 72 degrees early in the day, but the brief warmth will give way to cooler air as the system moves through.

Storms are expected from late morning through the afternoon. The latest forecast calls for a 100% chance of precipitation Tuesday, with about 1 to 1.5 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts possible near stronger thunderstorms, and temperatures falling from a high near 75 toward the lower 70s later in the day.

This is a sharper update to Hoodline’s earlier forecast, as the timing of the heaviest weather has come into better focus.

Strong Storms Could Bring Gusty Winds

South winds of 15 to 20 mph could gust as high as 30 mph while storms cross the area. The National Weather Service in Little Rock says the overall setup is not ideal for widespread severe weather, but stronger storms could still produce damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado.

Storms should begin easing Tuesday afternoon and largely move out of the area by evening, although a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms remains before 7 p.m. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed in the local forecast, but the combination of downpours, lightning and gusty winds could make driving and outdoor plans unpleasant during the busiest part of the day.

Sunny Skies Return Wednesday

Tuesday night turns cooler, with a low near 53 and only a slight chance of rain early in the evening. Wednesday brings a much calmer pattern, with sunny skies and a high near 73.

The rest of the week stays mostly dry, with Thursday warming to around 75 under sunny skies before cooler air settles in. Highs should fall to about 70 Friday and the mid-60s Saturday, while overnight temperatures dip into the 40s.
