A man was left in life-threatening condition Saturday evening after a multi-vehicle crash near Burke Lake in Fairfax County, according to Fairfax County police. Officers responded to the intersection of Fairfax County Parkway and Burke Lake Road around 5:43 p.m. and found a male driver with serious injuries, who was rushed to a hospital.
Police have not released additional details about how many vehicles were involved or what caused the crash, as reported by WJLA. The identities of the driver and anyone else who may have been involved have not been made public.
A Second Serious Crash at the Same Intersection in Weeks
Saturday's wreck marks the second time in less than a month that a serious collision has struck that same stretch of road. On October 4, Fairfax County police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the very same intersection of Fairfax County Parkway and Burke Lake Road, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. That crash involved a 2010 Nissan Altima that struck a 2017 Toyota 4Runner traveling eastbound on Burke Lake Road, directly in the intersection.
A 93-year-old Springfield man named Gerald Brook, a passenger in that crash, died the next day from his injuries. The county police department said in its release that Brook “was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained from the crash” on October 5. His death was also reported by FFXnow, which noted the crash happened on a Sunday afternoon in Burke.
Investigators said speed and alcohol did not preliminarily appear to be factors for the Toyota driver in the October 4 crash, while speed remained under investigation for the driver of the Nissan. The county's Crash Reconstruction Unit took on the case, and detectives asked anyone with information to call them at (703) 280-0543.
Traffic Deaths Have Doubled Across the County This Year
The back-to-back crashes near Burke Lake come as Fairfax County grapples with a sharp rise in traffic fatalities countywide. Traffic deaths in the county had grown by 100% compared with the same period last year, according to the Fairfax County Police Department, as reported by NBC4 Washington. The county had recorded 28 traffic fatalities so far this year, including 16 vehicle fatalities and 12 pedestrian fatalities, compared with 14 total fatalities at the same point in 2025.
The Burke Lake Road and Fairfax County Parkway intersection is not the only spot in the area with a history of serious wrecks. Back in June 2012, a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash at nearby Burke Lake Road and Ox Road, getting thrown roughly 50 feet from his motorcycle, according to Patch. That crash happened when a Hyundai Elantra driver heading north on Ox Road tried to turn left onto Clifton Road into the path of the southbound motorcyclist, police said at the time.
No further details have been released about Saturday's crash near Burke Lake, including the cause or whether anyone else was hurt. Fairfax County police have not said whether the investigation will be handled by the same Crash Reconstruction Unit that worked the October 4 case.
