A man was seriously wounded when gunfire struck a crowd at a Halloween gathering in Dallas’ Red Bird area late Saturday. Investigators have not determined whether he was the intended target or was caught in the crossfire, according to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
Police found the adult victim near 100 West Laureland Road with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. Preliminary information cited by FOX 4 says an altercation broke out between two groups at an event attended by dozens of people; members of one group left in a vehicle, and someone inside it fired toward the crowd before driving away.
As of Sunday, Dallas police had made no arrests in the Red Bird case. Detectives were still working to establish who fired and why; the circumstances of the altercation have not resolved whether the victim was singled out.
A separate gathering-related shooting
The Red Bird shooting is not the only documented case of gunfire at a Dallas gathering. On May 26, officers responded just before 12:30 a.m. to a shooting at a short-term rental in the 3700 block of Vilbig Road that killed three people and wounded a fourth, WFAA reported. That incident involved a different location and circumstances; it provides context for violence at gatherings, but does not establish a connection to the Red Bird shooting.
