An adult man was found shot and unresponsive in a parking lot in the 7200 block of Longview Road on Saturday afternoon, and Kansas City police say they still do not know what led to the shooting or who is responsible. Officers were called around 3:15 p.m. to a report of a dead body at the scene, and paramedics declared the man dead there.
Police said the man was suffering from gunshot wounds when officers arrived, according to Fox 4 Kansas City. When Fox 4 reported on the Saturday shooting, nobody was in custody, and investigators were still working to identify a subject of interest, the station reported. Kansas City police confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death, but have not released information about a suspect or what led up to the shooting, as KSHB 41 reported.
Fox 4's report noted that anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detectives or the TIPS Hotline, where anonymous tips could qualify for a reward of up to $25,000. The same report described the shooting's cause as unclear, leaving open whether the man was targeted or caught up in something else entirely.
A Stretch of Longview Road With a Violent Recent History
This is not the first deadly shooting to hit this stretch of road. In October 2025, detectives investigated a shooting near Bay Water Park on Longview Road that killed 16-year-old Ta'Kori Jones, according to KCTV5. Investigators in that case believed an interaction between several people in a nearby park escalated into gunfire, the station reported.
KCTV5's report also noted that two people, 49-year-old Gande A. Salamed and 17-year-old Delvyon Carmichael, were shot and killed weeks earlier outside the neighboring El Mercado Fresco grocery store.
Homicides Trending Down Citywide This Year
Friday's shooting comes as Kansas City's overall homicide numbers have been falling. As of October 19, KCPD had reported 108 homicides for the year, a 12% decrease from the same point in 2025, according to KCUR. The outlet also reported that nonfatal shootings had dropped 21% over the same period, from 338 last year to 267 this year.
Those declines have not been uniform across the city. KCUR reported that, as of October 15, the Center patrol zone had recorded 21 homicides compared with 26 the year before, while the East Patrol zone had recorded 30 compared with 42. By October 31, the Kansas City Police Department's own dashboard listed 111 homicides for 2026, compared with 125 at the same point the prior year, though that tally excludes officer-involved shootings. The department's data also showed a 79% clearance rate under UCR/NIBRS reporting standards.
Kansas City has also seen homicide declines.
No arrests had been announced in Saturday's shooting as of the latest reporting, and police have not said what led up to the gunfire. Anyone with information has been urged to contact homicide detectives or the TIPS Hotline.
