Cape Ann Motor Inn in Gloucester has a new owner, and a new name is already on the way. Martignetti Hospitality Group announced Thursday that it has acquired the motor inn at 33 Rockport Road, folding it into a coastal hotel collection that now spans three properties across Gloucester and Rockport.

According to the announcement, shared via EIN Presswire, the acquisition combines with the group's earlier purchase of Captain's Bounty on the Beach at 1 Beach Street in Rockport to bring Martignetti Hospitality Group's Cape Ann hotel count to three. As part of the deal, Cape Ann Motor Inn will be renamed the Inn at Long Beach, while Captain's Bounty on the Beach will become the Inn at Front Beach, per the announcement. The group says both properties remain fully operational and are still accepting reservations under their current names for now.

A Family Business Built Around Cape Ann's Shoreline

Martignetti Hospitality Group is a Massachusetts-based company already known on Cape Ann for Sogno restaurant, the Sogno at Sea yacht charters, and the Inn at Good Harbor Beach, the announcement notes.

Co-owner John Paul Martignetti said the group intends to bring its vision and commitment to both the Inn at Long Beach and the Inn at Front Beach, with plans to preserve each location's distinctive qualities while introducing improvements meant to serve guests and the surrounding communities.

Following a Pattern of Rockport and Gloucester Deals

This is not the Martignetti family's first move into Cape Ann hospitality. A January 2025 report from The Gloucester Times detailed the group's plans to take over Captain's Bounty on the Beach and Captain's Bounty Beach View in Rockport, properties offering 25 and 17 rooms, respectively. The report said the hotels were expected to open in spring, with Captain's Bounty Beach View set to open in April.

The group's first Cape Ann property, the Inn at Good Harbor Beach, has its own longer history. Martignetti Hospitality purchased that inn two years before the March 2025 report, operated it for two seasons, and undertook a major renovation, according to a 2025 report from Northshore Magazine. Edible Boston's March 2025 coverage noted the renovated property was scheduled to open later that year.

A Hotel Landscape That's Shrunk Dramatically

The expansion lands against a backdrop of a much smaller hospitality footprint than Cape Ann once had. Edible Boston reported that East Gloucester alone boasted more than 2,200 hotel rooms in 1900, while the broader city had fewer than 300 by 2024 — a steep decline that frames just how consolidated the local lodging scene has become.
