A man was left fighting for his life Wednesday afternoon after a shooting outside the North Frayser Community Center at Pickett Park in Memphis, and the gunman who police say wore a black ski mask and purple hoodie remains on the loose. Officers swarmed the 3800 block of Edenburg Drive, shutting down part of the street as investigators worked the scene into the evening.

According to Action News 5, the shooting call came in from the community center at 4:22 p.m., though WREG reported officers responded to the call around 4:20 p.m. Both outlets placed the shooting in the 3800 block of Edenburg Drive, directly across from Pickett Park. One man was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, police said.

Victim Ran Across the Street After Being Shot

Officers blocked off part of Edenburg Drive across from Pickett Park as they investigated, and the roadway remained closed as of 6 p.m., per the same account.

The suspect was described by police as a thin man last seen wearing a black ski mask, a purple hoodie, black pants and black shoes, and armed with a black handgun. As of the latest reporting, he had not been located, and no arrest has been announced.

Separate Frayser Shooting Reported Months Earlier

The Pickett Park shooting comes months after a separate, seemingly unrelated shooting elsewhere in Frayser. FOX13 Memphis reported that four or five men were on the run after a shooting at the Ridgecrest Apartments left a man seriously injured Monday night, with officers sent to the scene just after 6:15 p.m.

Police have not released the identity or current condition of the man hospitalized after the Pickett Park shooting. Anyone with information about the community center shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
