A members-only fitness club built around fixed training squads and a dedicated coach is set to open at 95 Hudson Street on November 16, marking Club Athletic’s first location in New Jersey. The new outpost, called Hoboken Athletic, promises full-body strength and conditioning sessions where members work with the same coach and the same small group each week rather than rotating through anonymous classes.

According to Hoboken Girl, the club focuses on full-body strength and conditioning, with members following a consistent schedule and working with a dedicated coach. The idea is less about dropping into whatever class fits a given day and more about building a routine around a familiar face and a familiar crew — a structure the brand says is meant to keep people accountable and socially engaged, not just physically worked out.

That structure gets specific once you look at how the sessions are actually run. Club Athletic says members train in fixed squads of up to 20, twice a week, with the same coach, in 55-minute strength and conditioning sessions, according to the company’s own site for the Hoboken club. Those squads aren’t a side feature — they’re effectively the whole model, with the same coach leading each workout and the same faces showing up week after week.

What Comes With a Hoboken Athletic Membership

Membership isn’t limited to the strength sessions themselves. Per the Hoboken Girl report, it also includes a Run Club that meets Monday through Thursday, monthly social events, and squad WhatsApp groups, folding a community layer on top of the workouts. For anyone not ready to join outright, Club Athletic’s FAQ page notes that drop-in classes are also available if you’re not ready to commit.

Committing does come with terms. The company’s terms of use state that Squad and APS memberships require a three-month minimum commitment, after which they continue month-to-month until canceled with appropriate notice. The same terms spell out the fine print around flexibility and fees: class cancellations made less than six hours before a session, as well as no-shows, incur a $35 fee, and members may pause their membership for up to four weeks twice a year, with the first pause costing $30 and the second charged at half the normal membership rate.

From a West Village Pier to a Seven-Club Brand

The Hoboken location traces back to a 2020 start on Pier 46 in New York City’s West Village, where Club Athletic says founder Dane McCarthy launched the brand, per Hoboken Girl’s reporting. The company was known as The Athletic Clubs before it announced an official rebrand to Club Athletic on May 20, 2026, according to a Fitt Insider press release announcing the change.

That same release said the brand had grown to seven locations across New York City since its 2020 founding, with two more locations planned for Chicago in July 2026 and a pipeline that, as of May, included at least three more New York City clubs plus an entry into the Washington, D.C. market. Hoboken Girl’s report separately describes the brand as having expanded to multiple locations across New York City and Chicago, with more than 2,500 members across its locations and additional expansion planned in Washington, D.C., Boston, and Texas.

A Crowded Local Fitness Scene

Hoboken Athletic is entering a city that already has no shortage of options. A Hoboken Girl guide to local fitness memberships describes Hoboken as home to more than 30 gyms, alongside a mix of fitness studios and class memberships. That same guide cites The Fit Club Hoboken, where members can try a class for a $35 drop-in fee and monthly memberships start at $195, and lists Barry’s Bootcamp as coming soon to the city, with memberships ranging from eight classes for $255 a month up to 30 classes for $476 a month as of that spring 2026 roundup.

Club Athletic has promoted the Hoboken debut with at least one community event: a run-and-coffee meetup listed on Luma that invited participants to set off from the new 95 Hudson Street location at 7 a.m. for a short jog, followed by coffee at Bean Vault, per the event listing from Luma The Athletic Clubs. Representatives from Hoboken Athletic did not immediately respond to a request for comment, Hoboken Girl reported.
