Memphis is starting Monday with cloudy skies, mild temperatures and a chance of a stray shower, but the brief warm spell is setting the stage for a stormier Tuesday. The city is expected to reach the mid-70s Monday before heavier rain and thunderstorms move in during the second half of Tuesday.
Cloudy Monday Gives Way To A Stormy Tuesday
Monday should stay mostly cloudy and mostly dry after a slight chance of morning showers, with a high near 74 degrees. South-southeast winds will run around 10 to 15 mph, while Monday night stays mild with a low near 64 and gusts that could reach 30 mph.
Tuesday will be warmer, with a high near 77, before showers and thunderstorms become more likely during the afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service in Memphis expects roughly 1 to 2 inches of rain across the area, with locally heavier downpours capable of causing ponding and minor flooding in flood-prone spots.
Clearer Skies Bring A Cooler Weekend
Storm chances drop sharply Wednesday, when Memphis should see mostly sunny skies and a high near 70. Thursday looks sunny and mild near 70, followed by a cooler Friday with a high around 66.
The weekend should bring mostly sunny or partly cloudy conditions, with highs in the mid-60s and overnight lows in the mid-40s. For outdoor plans, Monday afternoon offers the better window, while Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning is the stretch to keep an umbrella and extra commute time nearby.
