Muchacho is opening its third Atlanta-area restaurant at 129 Church Street in downtown Decatur, taking over the former home of chef Kevin Gillespie's Revival. The Reynoldstown coffee-and-taco spot, known for its West Coast-inspired menu, is expanding into a renovated 1940 craftsman bungalow with a relaxed, beach-inspired design.

Muchacho first opened in Reynoldstown in 2017 and later opened a second location in West Midtown in February 2026, according to What Now Atlanta. The Decatur spot marks the brand's third metro Atlanta outpost and continues its push beyond its original Reynoldstown footprint. Decaturish reported the restaurant was expected to soon open at the former site of Revival at 129 Church St. in downtown Decatur.

The timeline for a Decatur location has shifted more than once. Back in July 2021, Atlanta Magazine reported that the Reynoldstown coffee-and-taco shop was coming to Decatur in March 2022, and a separate Atlanta Magazine report later said a third Muchacho location would debut in the old Revival space that summer. When the What Now Atlanta planning piece on the project was written, the outlet noted that an exact opening date had not yet been announced for the Decatur location.

What's Planned for the Church Street Space

The new restaurant is expected to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with coffee and matcha drinks on the menu alongside a lineup that leans into Muchacho's signature style. The breakfast menu is expected to include breakfast tacos, burritos, bowls and toast, with options like a BEC taco made with eggs, bacon, potatoes and cheese, and the Gonz, featuring steak, eggs, potatoes and avocado salsa. Lunch and dinner offerings are expected to include street tacos, burritos, bowls and sandwiches, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options and a separate menu for kids.

On the drinks side, the Decatur menu is expected to feature coffee, matcha, margaritas, seasonal cocktails, beer, wine and agua fresca. The space is also expected to include an outdoor bar, a children's play area, and a garden space designed for private gatherings.

How It Compares to the West Midtown Location

Muchacho's Decatur location has nearly 7,000 square feet of outdoor space, a figure that dwarfs what the brand built at its West Midtown restaurant. That location was reported to include a 4,000-square-foot “tropical secret garden” with bamboo lining the perimeter, plus another 1,500 square feet of patio space wrapping the west and north sides of the property, according to Atlanta Magazine. West Midtown's patio was described as welcoming about 80 guests, with the full location accommodating roughly 215 people altogether.

West Midtown's outdoor area also includes a functional skateboarding halfpipe that doubles as a performance space for bands and DJs, per the same Atlanta Magazine report. It's unclear whether the Decatur bungalow's outdoor footprint will include anything similar, though the garden and private-gathering space suggest a different kind of outdoor draw for the Church Street location.

Decatur's Changing Downtown

The Revival building sits in a stretch of downtown Decatur that's seeing broader change. A Decatur Downtown Development Authority meeting on June 12 included a report that roughly 11 businesses were slated to open soon across the city, according to a local blog from Neil Hediger. Nearby, the AMLI mixed-use development under construction on Commerce Drive is planned to bring 358 multifamily units, a 642-space parking deck and 26,000 square feet of retail anchored by a grocery store, per that same report.
