Nine men are facing charges after detectives searched a home on Bethel Avenue near Thomas Street in Memphis's Uptown neighborhood on Wednesday, turning up a stash of narcotics, pills and five handguns. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office announced the charges on Friday, laying out a case built on a narcotics investigation that led deputies to the residence earlier in the week.
What Detectives Found Inside
According to Action News 5, the search warrant was issued as part of a narcotics investigation. Detectives reported seizing 2.5 pounds of marijuana and 434 grams of THC wax, just under a pound, along with a wide assortment of pills: 320 Alprazolam pills, 190 Oxycodone pills, 57 Ecstasy pills, 48 Hydrocodone pills and 13 Amphetamine pills. Investigators also recovered 18 Suboxone strips and five handguns from the property.
The haul translated into a long list of charges across the nine men named in the case. Tremayne Scales, 41, faces the most extensive charges of the group, including five counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, five counts of possessing or employing a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, five counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, felony property theft, possession of ecstasy with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Charges Facing the Rest of the Group
Eric Toler, 35, faces six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, along with felony property theft and possessing or employing a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony. Torrey Thomas, 35, faces five counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, firearm theft, possession of ecstasy with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, and possessing or employing a firearm during a dangerous felony. Rameek Wooten, 27, faces six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, two counts of possessing or employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, and felony property theft.
The remaining defendants each face two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell and two counts of possessing or employing a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony: Tequavious Brown, 22 (who also faces felony property theft), Skylar Greer, 20 (who also faces felony property theft), Tyreke Rogers, 24, Jayden Wilson, 21, and Taylen Swift, 22. Rogers, Wilson and Swift also face firearm-theft charges. Combined, the group's charge sheet includes 19 separate counts of possessing or employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Five handguns were recovered from the home.
A Similar Bust Across Town
The Bethel Avenue case echoes an earlier raid on the other side of the city. In that incident, WREG reported that three people were charged with a slew of drug and gun charges after officers and Memphis Safe Task Force members went to an apartment in the 6900 block of Ardwick Drive on May 7 to serve an arrest warrant. Detectives in that case said they seized four handguns, three rifles, magazines, ammunition, digital scales, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, promethazine with codeine, hydrocodone and a large amount of currency, and police said one of the recovered rifles was confirmed to be stolen.
No court records, plea information or case outcomes have been made public for the nine men charged in the Bethel Avenue case, and the sheriff's office has not released further details beyond the evidence seized and the charges filed.
