An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting 22-year-old Vincent Cordon during a fight near the pool at a Norman apartment complex last year. Aayden Lee Hutchins received the sentence in Cleveland County District Court for second-degree murder, along with a separate 10-year term for possession of a firearm after adjudication, with both sentences set to run concurrently.
According to News9, Hutchins pleaded guilty to both charges on October 1, a plea confirmed by the District 21 District Attorney’s Office. The outlet reported that the sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a total prison term of 25 years for the shooting death of Cordon.
The shooting happened on July 8, 2025, when Norman police said they responded to a report of gunfire near the pool area of The Ave Apartments. Police said the shooting happened during a fight at the complex, and officers transported Cordon to OU Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Family and Friends Address the Court
During sentencing, Cordon’s family and friends addressed the court, sharing how his death affected their lives, the station’s report states. District Attorney Jennifer Austin said the outcome held Hutchins responsible for the killing.
“Today’s sentence holds Hutchins accountable for taking Vincent Cordon’s life,” Austin said, adding that Cordon’s family and friends live with a loss that extends beyond the courtroom, per the same account.
Case Timeline Still Has Unanswered Pieces
The Norman Police Department previously said it arrested two individuals in connection with a fatal shooting in the 3300 block of 12th Avenue SE that occurred on July 8 — the same date as the shooting at The Ave Apartments. That detail comes from a department statement and has not been independently detailed further in the reporting on Hutchins’ sentencing.
With the plea and sentencing now finalized, Cordon’s case moves from the courtroom back to the community that watched it unfold near the apartment pool where the fight and shooting took place in July 2025.
