A Four-Decade Tradition
The Senior Games have deep roots in the region. The event returned in 2022 after a two-year hiatus tied to COVID-19 restrictions, timed to coincide with its 40th anniversary, as NKyTribune reported. That edition ran from May 3 through May 30, 2022, and was organized by the parks and recreation departments of Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties.
The warm-weather version of the games has drawn strong turnout as well — the 2025 Senior Games began May 1 at Tower Park in Fort Thomas with nearly 300 participants ages 50 and over, according to a report from Local 12, before wrapping up May 23 at Memorial Park in Independence with field games, lunch and an awards ceremony.
