Todd Sharbono’s Northland yard has grown over six years into a large Halloween display featuring a two-story skeleton named Skelly, a massive skeleton dog and a graveyard. At night, floodlights and colored lighting transform the house and trees.

Sharbono has built the collection over the past six years, according to KSHB 41. This year, he said, neighbors challenged him to take the display further. Floodlights illuminate the yard, and Sharbono told the station that as it gets dark, “the whole side of the house, the trees, everything turned bright red.”

The Work Continues After Halloween

The display takes time to dismantle, too. Sharbono starts packing it away the day after Halloween, a process that takes about two or three trailer loads to move everything back into storage.

Skelly was one of Sharbono’s first major purchases for the collection. The towering skeleton was later joined by a large skeleton dog, while his English bulldog, Penelope, keeps him company around the property.

What Visitors See After Dark

Sharbono said he enjoys watching the reactions of trick-or-treaters who come through, and that seeing their excitement is part of what keeps him going. One visitor, Paige Spencer, described the decorations as very cool and said Sharbono had gone above and beyond. Sharbono said he does not think a person ever loses their inner child, a philosophy that shows in the scale of the annual build.

Fire-Safety Context for Decorations

As general safety context, the National Fire Protection Association reports an annual average of 835 home structure fires that began with decorations from 2020–2024. In 47% of those fires, decorations were too close to a heat source, such as a candle or hot equipment. These are national figures and do not describe Sharbono’s property.

From Halloween to Christmas

Once the Halloween display is stored, Sharbono moves on to putting out Christmas decorations. He has kept those plans under wraps for now.

Sharbono’s next graveyard plans remain a mystery, but he has said he intends to expand it. After six years of building the display, the Northland yard is still a work in progress.
