A house fire near Northwest 192nd Street and North May Avenue killed five dogs and displaced two people Saturday night, after crews were called to the scene just after 6:30 p.m. The blaze tore through the kitchen, leaving it badly damaged, though the home itself was not considered a total loss.
Oklahoma City and Deer Creek fire departments both responded to the structure fire, according to KOCO. Oklahoma City Fire Department officials said they believe the fire started in the kitchen, though that origin has not been confirmed as a formal determination. The station's report placed the fire in northwest Oklahoma City.
Pets Lost, Residents Displaced
The toll on the household's animals was significant: five dogs died in the fire, per the same account from Oklahoma City and Deer Creek crews. Two people who lived in the home were displaced as a result of the damage, though the structure's overall survival means they may eventually be able to return once repairs are made.
No additional details on the residents' identities, their immediate housing situation, or the dogs' breeds were included in the available reporting. The extent of the kitchen damage, however, was described as severe enough to warrant the firefighting response from two separate departments.
A Similar Blaze Elsewhere in the Metro
The Saturday night fire isn't the only recent incident where Oklahoma City crews teamed up with a neighboring department on a residential blaze. In a separate case, Oklahoma City and Edmond fire crews battled a house fire near Northwest 178th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, according to News 9. That fire caused roughly $100,000 in damage and killed one animal.
News 9 reported that two pets were discovered inside that home during the fire — one died, while the other was reunited with its owner. Authorities said no one was home when that fire broke out, and its official cause remained under investigation at the time of the report. The fire near Northwest 178th Street and Santa Fe Avenue occurred before the November 7, 2026, fire near Northwest 192nd Street and North May Avenue.
Both fires underscore how often Oklahoma City fire crews are called to assist neighboring departments across the metro's sprawling suburbs, where mutual aid agreements mean multiple agencies frequently respond together to residential fires that threaten both property and pets.
