A late-night call about a violent disturbance on Faith Way in Norton ended with one man stabbed in the hand and a second victim assaulted, according to police. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jake Callanan, has since been arraigned on a string of charges including assault with intent to murder.
Norton police said officers responded to Faith Way around 11:40 p.m. Monday for a report of a violent disturbance, according to Boston 25 News. When they arrived, officers found two victims, a man and a woman, at the scene.
Police identified the suspect as Callanan, and the male victim told police that Callanan stabbed him in the hand with a knife and physically assaulted him before also turning on the woman. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the woman declined medical treatment, the outlet's report notes.
Charges Filed Against Callanan
Callanan was charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a person 60 years of age or older, and two counts of threats to commit a crime, per the same account.
Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 265, Section 15, addresses assault with intent to murder or maim and states that the offense is punishable by imprisonment in state prison for not more than ten years, according to the Massachusetts General Court. That statutory language describes the maximum penalty generally and does not speak to how it might apply in this particular case.
