A 65-year-old man was left in critical condition after being stabbed in the upper body late Thursday night near Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, with no arrests made and no suspect identified as of Friday. The attack was reported around 11:09 p.m. in the 50 block of Croxton Avenue, just south of Interstate 580.
According to The Mercury News, the victim was taken to a hospital after the attack and remains in critical condition. Authorities told the outlet the man was a transient. The circumstances that led to the stabbing are still unclear, and police have not said what prompted the violence.
Neighbor Heard Argument, Then Found Man Injured
Initial police reports cited by the same outlet indicate a resident living near the scene heard an argument outside their home before the stabbing occurred. That resident went outside to investigate and found the injured man, according to the report.
Oakland police have not released any suspect information, and the motive behind the stabbing remains under investigation, the paper's report notes. No arrests had been announced as of Friday.
Investigation Continues, Tip Line Open
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact investigators at 510-238-3326. Oakland police are also accepting video or other images related to the incident by email at [email protected], per the same account.
Beyond the immediate details of the attack, little else has been confirmed. Oakland police's own daily information logs have previously cautioned that early details in active cases are often preliminary and subject to change until an investigator can fully review an incident — a pattern reflected in a separate Oakland Police Department daily log noting that such investigations remain fluid in their early stages. As of now, no additional information about this particular stabbing has been made public.
