Preliminary plans describe a children's recreational and educational enrichment center at the site of the former Smithland Pet & Garden Center on Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook.
The proposal was covered by The Connecticut Scoop, while CTInsider lists the address as 925 Boston Post Road. CTInsider reports that Smithland closed in 2025, and that AMF Saybrook Lanes previously operated at the location, which sits adjacent to Ocean State Job Lot.
What WonderPop Would Bring to the Property

CTInsider reported that the Old Saybrook Planning & Zoning Commission was scheduled to hear details of the preliminary plans on November 2.
A Similar Project Taking Shape in Bethel
WonderPop isn't the only children's play venue working through Connecticut's approval process this fall. CTInsider also reported on a proposed indoor children's playground in Bethel, where a public hearing is scheduled for November 20. That project, planned for a multi-tenant commercial property at 16 Stony Hill Road, would reportedly be opened by Avestil DaSilva Jr.
For now, Old Saybrook residents curious about the future of the long-vacant pet and garden store site will have to wait for more concrete details to emerge from the municipal review process.
