Omaha is starting Sunday under cloudy skies with temperatures around 57 degrees, but the calm setup will not last. A mild afternoon in the mid 60s gives way to overnight rain, gusty winds and a much more active Monday.
Sunday stays mostly cloudy, with only a 20% chance of rain showers between about 2 and 5 p.m. Southeast winds are expected, and no watches, warnings or advisories are currently posted by the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley.
Rain Arrives Sunday Night
The forecast turns wetter after dark, with rain showers becoming likely around 9 p.m. Sunday and thunderstorms possible after 3 a.m. Monday. The precipitation chance reaches 90% to 100% late Sunday into Monday morning, with a low near 59 and Sunday-night wind gusts up to 16 mph.
The latest outlook is a sharper turn from Hoodline’s earlier Omaha forecast, which highlighted a damp Halloween weekend but left more uncertainty around Monday’s storm potential.
Monday Brings Stronger Storm Potential
Monday could reach 72 degrees, but showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with a 90% chance of precipitation. South-southeast winds around 20 mph may gust to 35 mph, while the broader forecast discussion warns that gusts could briefly reach 40 to 45 mph.
The National Weather Service says some storms Monday afternoon and evening could become strong to severe in areas southeast of a line from Albion to Norfolk to Onawa. Forecasters say damaging wind gusts and small hail are possible, and a tornado cannot be ruled out if conditions become favorable.
There are no active alerts for the Omaha area at this time, but loose outdoor items should be secured before Monday and residents should keep weather alerts enabled. Monday night remains unsettled, with more showers and storms, a low near 55 and another quarter to half-inch of rain possible.
Cooler And Quieter By Midweek
Tuesday stays unsettled with likely rain showers, a high near 61 and northwest winds that could gust to 40 to 45 mph as strong winds aloft mix down. A final slight chance of showers lingers Wednesday morning before skies turn partly sunny and the rest of the week settles into highs in the upper 50s and low 60s.
