An officer-involved shooting in Blaine County is under investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Blaine County, according to a release from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

. When deputies arrived, they made contact with Black and determined he had physically assaulted a minor, the agency said.

As deputies tried to take Black into custody, he brandished a firearm, which led to the officer-involved shooting, per the release. The agency reported no other injuries during the altercation. The Blaine County Sheriff's Office formally requested the OSBI investigation the same day, a standard step in Oklahoma whenever an officer's use of force results in a death.

What Comes Next in the Investigation

The OSBI said it appreciates the sheriff's office's continued assistance with the investigation, a routine line the agency uses while an inquiry remains active. The bureau has not released additional details beyond its Nov. 2 statement, and it is unclear how many deputies were involved or whether more information will follow as the case develops.

In Carter County, deputies were called to a Healdton apartment complex just before noon on Oct. 31 for a domestic dispute of their own, according to KOKH FOX 25. When deputies tried to approach 60-year-old Troy Brown, the station reported, he brandished a knife and was shot and killed by an officer at the scene, with the OSBI opening an investigation into that shooting as well.

In a September 2022 Garfield County case, a deputy fatally shot a suspect who had threatened him with a knife and did not comply with commands, KOCO reported. In Rogers County, the bureau was called in to assist with an investigation into a deputy-involved shooting of an armed suspect, according to News On 6. Not every OSBI probe ends with the bureau retaining control of a case; in Watonga, an investigation into a police officer's use of force was eventually turned back over to local authorities, KOCO separately reported.
