Memphis police officers were called to the 3600 block of Brompton Road in the Oakhaven neighborhood around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday after a shooting was reported in the area. As of early Tuesday morning, it remained unclear who fired the shot or whether anyone was hurt.
According to WREG, officers responded to the call early Tuesday, and the outlet reported that investigators had not yet determined who was behind the gunfire or whether any injuries resulted. Anyone with information that could help police piece together what happened is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. WREG said it would continue updating its report as more details become available.
A Neighborhood That's Seen Repeated Gunfire
Tuesday's incident is the latest in a string of shootings reported in and around Oakhaven in recent weeks, though the available reporting does not tie these incidents together or establish any pattern connecting them. In late October, a shooting outside Yams Entertainment Event Center along Winchester Road and Old Tchulahoma Road left six people hurt, according to Action News 5. Police said that incident began with a fight outside the venue, and five people were shot, with two hospitalized in non-critical condition and three listed as critical; a sixth person was hurt in the foot without being shot. Officers took 24-year-old Kendell Catron into custody and he faced four counts of aggravated assault, per the same report.
Separately, a man was left in critical condition after officers responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of Winchester Road just after 8:30 p.m., according to Local Memphis. Police detained one person at the scene, and the station reported that a 17-year-old boy was later charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon in that case.
Deadly Shooting Also Reported Nearby
Another shooting in the Oakhaven area turned deadly, leaving one man dead on a Saturday night, according to WREG. In that case, officers were called around 10:40 p.m. to the 3400 block of Winchester Road near Lake Park Drive. Police said the victim had been arguing with the suspect before the shooting, and the suspect fled the scene in a maroon sedan, the station reported.
None of those earlier reports have been connected to Tuesday's shooting on Brompton Road, and investigators have not said whether the cases are related. For now, the key questions in the overnight shooting — who fired the shot and whether anyone was injured — remain open, and anyone with information is urged to come forward through CrimeStoppers.
