A pedestrian was struck and killed overnight in Maryland Heights, closing a stretch of Page Avenue as investigators worked the scene into Thursday morning. Police have not released the identity of the person killed, and few details about the crash itself were immediately available.

According to FOX 2, the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Page Avenue between Ball Drive and Schuetz Road. First Alert 4, however, reported the crash occurred closer to 2 a.m. on Page Boulevard near Ball Drive — the two outlets differing on both the exact time and the road's name. Maryland Heights police and St. Louis County police are jointly investigating, per FOX 2's reporting.

All westbound lanes of Page Avenue were closed in the crash area as officers worked the scene, the station reported. At the site, First Alert 4 said crews found a scooter in the road and a passenger car parked on the shoulder with its hazard lights still on, though neither outlet has confirmed how those vehicles factor into the crash itself.

Details Still Emerging

Crash details were not immediately available Thursday morning, and it remains unclear how long the westbound closure lasted or when normal traffic resumed. FOX 2 said it would share more information as it becomes available.

This is not the only deadly pedestrian crash recorded on Page Avenue in St. Louis County. In a separate incident reported by KSDK, a woman was killed near the intersection of Page Avenue and North Warson Road on a Monday night around 8:55 p.m. Police said an eastbound Audi struck and killed the woman, identified as 53-year-old Norma Monsivais, and that the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. KSDK reported that investigation remains ongoing.

A Deadly Stretch Region-Wide

The overnight death adds to a grim trend across the St. Louis region. A report cited by STLPR found that 2024 was the deadliest year on record for pedestrians in both St. Louis city and St. Louis County, with 23 people killed in the city and 36 in the county. That marked a 187% jump in pedestrian deaths in the city and a 24% increase in the county compared with the previous year, according to the station's reporting.

Trailnet's research, as relayed by STLPR, found that many regional crashes cluster on a handful of roads, including Grand, Kingshighway, Broadway, Gravois, Lindbergh, Halls Ferry, Manchester and Big Bend. The report pointed to speed limits above 35 mph on wide arterial roads without mid-block pedestrian crossings as a long-standing safety challenge. St. Louis County and the Missouri Department of Transportation have each put a combined $4 million toward safety improvements at 33 locations, per the same report.

No further details on Thursday's crash, including the identity of the victim or the vehicle involved, have been released. Police have not said when the investigation might conclude.
