Phoenix is headed for sunshine Friday and a high near 78. The bigger local story is the stretch after that: Saturday through Veterans Day should stay sunny, dry and close to 80 degrees.

Friday Starts Cloudy, Then Clears

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast, while a few isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop over higher terrain north and east of the city. That is a modest update from Hoodline’s earlier forecast, which emphasized a fully dry Friday and a similar warm weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Phoenix, winds across south-central Arizona should mostly favor east to north at around 8 knots or less through tonight. Skies should turn mostly clear Friday night, with a low near 60.

Sunny Stretch Holds Through Veterans Day

Saturday is expected to be the warmest day of the weekend, with sunshine and a high near 81. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday should remain sunny with highs near 80, followed by another sunny day around 80 on Veterans Day.

Overnight lows will stay mostly in the upper 50s to around 60, giving early-morning commuters and dog walkers a reason to keep a light layer handy. By afternoon, though, the forecast is firmly in patio-and-park territory.

Clear Skies Do Not Mean Calm Rivers

The National Weather Service says the Salt and Gila rivers will continue experiencing high-volume flows through at least the weekend because of dam releases. Residents should avoid fast-moving water, riverbanks and low-water crossings, and follow any posted closures even while the rest of the Valley enjoys clear skies.
