Phoenix police described two separate cases near 20th and Northern avenues Thursday evening: a domestic-violence call and a stabbing. The man who was stabbed suffered a neck laceration, and police later used a pepper-ball launcher and a taser before arresting the suspect.
According to ABC15 Arizona, officers were responding to a domestic-violence call when they received word of the stabbing, reported around 6:30 p.m. Police said the suspect had allegedly assaulted a woman at an apartment complex.
Officers found the stabbed man near the intersection. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, according to the same account.
Police Say the Incidents Were Unrelated
Police said the stabbing victim was not connected to the domestic-violence case. The calls came in within minutes of each other in the same general area, but authorities described them as unrelated.
The woman involved in the domestic-violence incident was also taken to a hospital as a precaution, according to ABC15 Arizona. The initial police account did not detail the alleged assault or what led up to it.
Phoenix Domestic-Violence Calls
According to the City of Phoenix’s 2025 Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team report, police received 33,408 calls for service involving domestic violence in 2024, resulting in 23,889 reports. Those figures provide a count for 2024 but do not show whether call and report totals changed over recent years.
A Citywide Training Recommendation
The same City of Phoenix review also recommended researching an annual domestic-violence training module for city employees.
Police Describe the Arrest
ABC15 reported that police said the suspect did not comply when officers tried to take him into custody. Officers used a pepper-ball launcher and a taser before arresting him.
The suspect’s identity and any formal charges have not been released. Phoenix police have not provided further details about what preceded either incident.
