A pre-dawn power outage affected more than 2,600 customers on Hayden Island Friday. The island is in the Columbia River between Portland and Vancouver, and the outage was first identified at about 2:45 a.m.
KATU reported that PGE listed 2,671 customers as affected. As of early Friday morning, the utility had not identified the cause on its website, and crews were working to restore service.
Crews Target Morning Restoration
PGE estimated that power would be restored to affected customers by about 8:45 a.m. Friday.
How often do PGE customers lose power?
The Oregon Public Utility Commission tracks reliability trends for investor-owned utilities using four indices. That provides statewide context, but does not establish how often PGE customers experience sustained interruptions or explain the conditions behind Friday's outage on Hayden Island.
A separate incident previously disrupted power for more than 1,400 PGE customers after a fire near Hayden Island Drive, just west of Jantzen Beach Shopping Center. KATU reported that service was later restored; Portland Fire & Rescue had not said what caused the fire or how much damage it caused.
Investigation Into Earlier Fire Still Open
KBND also reported that the earlier fire was under investigation. No connection between that incident and Friday's outage has been established.
PGE's Friday restoration estimate was about 8:45 a.m.; the cause of the outage had not been identified in the utility information reported that morning.
