A family-owned steel fabricator in Russellville just locked down another major federal contract, this time worth more than $14 million to build a connector bridge headed for Memphis. G&G Steel Inc. will fabricate and deliver the steel connector bridge and related components for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under a firm-fixed-price deal valued at $14,016,810.
Memphis District Awarded the Contract After a Single Bid
According to 256 Today, the work will be performed in Memphis, Tennessee, with an estimated completion date of February 15, 2028. The Corps solicited bids online and received just one offer, and the Memphis District is serving as the contracting agency for the award. The full contract amount was obligated from fiscal 2027 civil construction funds, the outlet reports.
G&G Steel describes itself as a family-owned company headquartered on a 27-acre campus in Russellville, per the same account. The company specializes in heavy steel fabrication, large machining, and complex assemblies for infrastructure, bridges, aerospace, and other industries. Its Russellville operation alone includes roughly 320,000 square feet of fabrication space, a 90,400-square-foot machine shop, and a 26,880-square-foot clean assembly bay.
A Growing Footprint Across Two States
The company has expanded well beyond its Alabama roots. Per G&G Steel, the business has extended operations to Cordova, Alabama, where it runs Warrior River Steel, and to Iuka, Mississippi, home to G&G Steel Mississippi Works. Across all three locations, the company says it has more than 918,000 square feet of manufacturing and fabrication space. G&G Steel was incorporated in 1975, the company's own history notes.
This is not G&G Steel's first large-scale Army Corps assignment. The report notes the company also holds an $11.5 million Corps contract for the removal, fabrication, delivery, and installation of culvert valve assemblies at Cannelton Locks and Dam, located on the Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky. That contract's cumulative value has grown to approximately $14.6 million, and it supports the main lock chamber at Cannelton.
A Separate Multimillion-Dollar Miter Gate Deal
G&G Steel has also picked up federal work far from the Southeast. According to globalsecurity.org, the Russellville company was awarded a separate $14,609,132 firm-fixed-price contract for fabrication and delivery of one replacement miter gate for the Poe Lock at the Soo Locks Complex. That work, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, carries an estimated completion date of July 31, 2029.
Taken together, the string of awards underscores how a single Russellville fabricator has become a go-to contractor for the Army Corps on projects stretching from Alabama's river locks to the Great Lakes and now Memphis. For now, the connector bridge contract keeps the company's attention fixed on the Mississippi River city, with delivery still more than a year away.
