A 41-year-old Sacramento man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say he assaulted his wife, pressed a handgun to the back of her neck, and then barricaded himself inside his home for roughly 40 minutes before surrendering. Wang Yu Yang was taken into custody late Tuesday night and is now held on $200,000 bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

According to the Sacramento Sheriff

, Central Division deputies responded Tuesday night to a domestic violence call involving Yang. The sheriff's office said Yang assaulted his wife multiple times, then threatened her with a handgun and put the weapon against the back of her neck before striking her in the forehead.

The victim managed to flee the residence with her children and contacted law enforcement, per the sheriff's account. Deputies then established a perimeter around Yang's home as the situation escalated into a standoff.

Deputies Call In Reinforcements as Yang Refuses to Surrender

Yang refused to come outside despite repeated announcements and phone calls from deputies, the sheriff's office said. As the standoff dragged on, deputies requested an armored vehicle, a K-9 unit, and drones to help manage the scene.

Yang ultimately exited the residence on his own after approximately 40 minutes, and deputies took him into custody without further incident, according to the same account. No injuries to deputies were reported during the arrest.

Four Loaded Guns and a 60-Round Magazine Recovered

Once inside, deputies said they uncovered four loaded firearms in the residence: the handgun allegedly used to threaten the victim, two rifles, and a semi-automatic shotgun. They also recovered six high-capacity rifle magazines, including one with a capacity of 60 rounds, along with numerous rounds of ammunition, the sheriff's office reported.

Yang was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony charges and is being held on $200,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

A Pattern of Armed Standoffs in the Sacramento Region

This is not the only recent case in the region where deputies have faced an armed, barricaded suspect in a domestic situation. In a separate incident, Sacramento deputies arrested a man accused of pointing a gun at a neighbor after a nearly five-hour standoff at an apartment where his wife and 10-year-old daughter were inside, according to sacbee.com. In that case, deputies breached the apartment's front door, sent in a drone, and later breached a bedroom window during negotiations before the standoff ended around 12:30 a.m.

Other recent standoffs in the area have ended differently. KCRA reported on a separate standoff in Sacramento's Parkway neighborhood in which an armed person barricaded alone surrendered peacefully after negotiations, with no injuries reported. In a far more serious case, a domestic violence-related pursuit on Interstate 80 ended with deputies fatally shooting the suspect after, per the Sheriff's Office, he pointed a firearm at them, according to KCRA.
