A disturbance call in the 5300 block of 61st Street turned into a rooftop standoff Sunday, ending nearly two hours later when a police K-9 took the suspect into custody. Sacramento Police Department officers responded to the report just before 12:30 p.m., according to department Public Information Officer Allison Smith.
As reported by Public Safety News, responding officers found the suspect on the roof of the victim's residence. Police say the suspect then jumped from the roof onto the victim's vehicle, damaging it in the process. The department also says the victim had an active restraining order against the suspect at the time of the incident.
Nearly Two Hours of Negotiation
Once officers located the man on the roof, crisis negotiators worked for close to two hours in an effort to resolve the standoff peacefully, per the same account from Public Safety News. The standoff ultimately ended with a K-9 apprehension rather than a peaceful surrender, Smith said.
Police have not released the suspect's identity, specified any booking charges, or provided information about whether anyone was injured during the incident, according to the department's statement relayed through Smith. Those details remain outstanding as of the most recent update.
Another Sacramento Standoff
The 61st Street incident follows a separate standoff earlier this year in which a man was detained after an hours-long confrontation with Sacramento police at an apartment complex in the city's Parkway neighborhood, according to KCRA. That case remains a limited point of comparison, as the circumstances differed from the 61st Street response.
The Sacramento Police Department maintains a daily log of events and calls for service, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Residents in the area may see continued updates as the department releases further information.
