Two new Salad House locations are set to open in Metuchen and Jersey City as the fast-casual chain continues to spread its made-to-order salads, bowls and wraps across New Jersey. The Metuchen shop will land at 660 Middlesex Ave., while the Jersey City outpost will open at 15 Exchange Place, according to a report.

The openings were detailed by NJ.com, which reported that the two storefronts are expected to debut on Nov. 4. The Metuchen franchise will be led by Dhruv Shah, a restaurateur already involved with Masalamex in Westfield and Bombay Spice in Edison, per the same report. Shah said he is really excited to lead the Metuchen franchise, and the outlet noted that the buildout for that location took longer than originally expected.

In Jersey City, the new shop will be run by franchise partners Patrick and Breanna Courtney, who have personal ties to the local community. The couple said Jersey City has always been a special place for their family, according to the report.

A Millburn Startup Turned Regional Chain

Salad House was founded by Joey Cioffi in Millburn in 2011, according to SILive. The chain's first franchise location opened in Westfield in 2017, and the company has since grown into what SILive described as a footprint of more than 20 locations throughout the metropolitan area, though an earlier NJBIZ report put the figure at 20 locations open across the region. Salad House is now a fully franchised system, NJBIZ reported.

The Metuchen location marks the brand's 32nd signed territory, according to RestaurantNews.com, which also reported that in April 2025 the chain had 20 locations with 12 more in various stages of development. Salad House's menu centers on made-to-order salads, sandwiches, grain bowls, wraps, soups and smoothies, NJBIZ noted, while the NJ.com report added that the chain also offers cauliflower bites and options for children.

New Jersey Roots, Wider Ambitions

According to NJ.com, Salad House currently operates locations across New Jersey in Cherry Hill, Englewood, Hackensack, Livingston, Manahawkin, Marlboro, Millburn, Montclair, Morristown, Newark, New Brunswick, Parsippany, Red Bank, Ridgewood, Rutherford, Secaucus, Sparta, Toms River, Wall, Wayne, Westfield and Westwood. The chain has also expanded into New York, with locations in White Plains and Brooklyn, the report said. NJBIZ previously reported that Salad House opened its first out-of-state location in Brooklyn in August 2024, and that a franchisee is developing two stores in Westchester County while another operator is planning a Staten Island location.

SILive reported that Salad House recently opened at 2732 Ocean Ave. in Sheepshead Bay and is planning a location at 125 Page Ave. in Richmond Valley on Staten Island. Per NJ.com, the chain will soon open locations in Staten Island and Brandywine, Maryland, with additional New Jersey and New York openings planned for Lacey Township, Ramsey and Mount Kisco, and a North Carolina opening planned for Hickory, in the first quarter of 2027.

Eyeing Markets Beyond the Northeast

Salad House founder and CEO Joey Cioffi said the company is building momentum with openings across New Jersey, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio, according to NJ.com. The chain has a franchise agreement for Charlotte, North Carolina, and is working on site selection there, the report said. RestaurantNews.com separately reported that franchise agreements are in the pipeline for Maryland, Virginia and Long Island as part of the brand's East Coast expansion, and NJBIZ reported that Cioffi expected the chain to open about 15 locations within the following year.

Cioffi said the company aims to make healthier eating more convenient, quick and delicious without sacrificing quality or flavor, per NJ.com. He also said generous portions have always been part of Salad House's identity. The chain's growth hasn't gone unnoticed in the industry: NJBIZ reported that Salad House debuted at No. 18 on Fast Casual's 2025 Top 100 Movers & Shakers list and was included in Eat This, Not That!'s 2025 ranking of the 10 Best Salad Chains in America.
