A road rage dispute that started on Dayton Pike around 5:30 p.m. on Halloween ended with bullets tearing through a Sale Creek home and striking a man in the leg. Hamilton County deputies arrested Luke Roberts and charged him with attempted first-degree murder and reckless endangerment after investigators say he chased the other driver back to his house and opened fire.
Dispatcher Warned Him Off, but He Kept Going
The confrontation began between two drivers on Dayton Pike before escalating into gunfire in the Sale Creek area, according to local3news.com. An arrest report cited by the station says a 911 dispatcher discouraged Roberts from pursuing the other driver after obtaining that driver's license plate information, but Roberts told the dispatcher he intended to keep following him anyway. As reported by WTVC, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office received a call about the incident in the 400 block of Fuller Road, where the confrontation ultimately came to a head.
The pursuit ended at the victim's own home. The man told deputies he got out of his car unarmed when he was struck by Roberts's gunfire in the left ankle, per the same local3news.com report. Deputies said additional gunfire passed through the front living room of the victim's house and nearly hit a person who was inside at the time.
Truck Also Hit by Multiple Rounds
Beyond the injury and the damage to the house, the victim's truck took multiple hits as well. Bullets deflated a tire and damaged the tailgate, paneling and bed cover, according to the same account. WDEF reported that Hamilton County Sheriff's Office detectives confirmed multiple residences were struck by gunfire in addition to the victim's own home, though no other injuries were reported. The man's leg wound was described as non-life-threatening.
Deputies detained Roberts at the scene before he was formally arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and felony reckless endangerment, WTVC reported. The sheriff's office cautioned that the information released so far is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues. Roberts is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 6, according to local3news.com.
