San Jose is waking up to clear skies and temperatures around 52 degrees Monday, but the calm start will give way to a wet Tuesday morning commute. Patchy fog is expected before 8 a.m., followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 70.
Rain Arrives For Tuesday’s Commute
Rain is possible in San Jose Tuesday from roughly 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a 40% chance of precipitation.
Tuesday will be cooler, with a high near 67 and southerly winds around 7 mph. The rain could make for a potentially soggy Tuesday morning commute, with drier weather expected by Wednesday.
Sunny Skies Return By Midweek
Wednesday should bring patchy fog before 9 a.m., followed by mostly sunny skies and a high near 69. Temperatures then climb into the low 70s Thursday, reach about 75 Friday and peak near 78 on Saturday and Sunday.
Overnight lows will generally sit in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees through the weekend. In other words, jackets for the morning and short sleeves by afternoon remain a pretty solid San Jose strategy.
Beachgoers Face A Separate Hazard
The National Weather Service is also warning of hazardous beach conditions along Pacific Coast beaches through Tuesday evening. Long-period northwest swell could produce sneaker waves and strong rip currents, so beach visitors should stay off rocks, jetties and piers and remain out of the water during the advisory.
Seasonal Rain and Coastal Safety
For longer-term context, a 1999 National Weather Service report on San Jose’s climate says 82% of the city’s yearly precipitation falls during the November-through-March wet season.
The beach advisory names sneaker waves and strong rip currents as hazards. California State Parks also cautions that large surf, rip currents and shoreline features can make wading or climbing on rocks dangerous, reinforcing the advice to stay off rocks, jetties and piers and out of the water.
