A woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after a standoff at a San Jose apartment complex on the 1100 block of Pedro Street. Police were called around 1:38 p.m. to reports of an armed disturbance, according to NBC Bay Area.
According to NBC Bay Area, police said a preliminary investigation revealed the woman had reportedly threatened her roommates with a firearm before the standoff began. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution while officers worked to resolve the situation, the outlet reported.
Woman Taken Into Custody After Hourslong Standoff
The woman remained inside the apartment after officers arrived, and the standoff continued for several hours. Specialized police units later joined the response, according to NBC Bay Area.
Officers with the police department's VCET and DSU units took her into custody, the outlet reported. San Jose police said the investigation was ongoing; they had not released information about possible charges.
Negotiations and Nearby Evacuations
Police said nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, but the information released about this incident does not specify a department policy for evacuations. As general context, the San Jose Police Department says its Tactical Negotiator Unit responds to crisis situations requiring a specially trained negotiator and aims to communicate and negotiate toward a safe resolution.
A Separate Standoff Months Earlier
The Pedro Street incident wasn't the only barricaded-suspect situation to rattle San Jose recently. Just days earlier, officers were locked in a standoff with a different suspect over a domestic dispute involving a weapon on a Monday evening near San Jose State University, according to KRON4.
In that earlier case, a man barricaded himself inside an apartment complex on the 200 block of S. 4th Street, next to the university campus. KRON4 reported that police negotiated with him for hours before he left the building by 9 p.m. and was taken into custody without further incident.
San Jose police have not released further details about the Pedro Street arrest beyond confirming that the investigation remains active. The woman's identity and any potential charges have not been made public.
