According to WBAL-TV 11, a search is underway near Garrett Island on the Susquehanna River.
Weather Complicating the Search Effort
Challenging weather conditions are complicating the search. That has added urgency to the request for the public to stay away from the search zone, including the boat ramp on Water Street, so crews can operate without interference from other river traffic.
U.S. Coast Guard aviation was reported to be en route to assist, officials said, bringing additional air support to the water-based search already underway near the island. No further details on the scope or outcome of the search had been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
A River With a History of Emergencies
Garrett Island and the surrounding stretch of the Susquehanna River have seen other water emergencies in recent memory. CBS Baltimore previously reported that a man was taken to shore near Garrett Island after his canoe overturned on the river, an incident separate from Wednesday's search.
Further downriver near the Hatem Bridge in Havre de Grace, responders were called out in December 2025 after reports of people in the water, according to Daily Voice. In that incident, one victim was transported to Christiana Trauma while crews continued searching for a reported second victim. That case remains a separate event from the search unfolding near Garrett Island this week.
No additional information has been released about the cause or outcome of Wednesday's search. Hoodline will update this story as more details become available.
