Earlier LaGrange, Georgia, Gas Station Shootings
Sunday's shooting occurred in La Grange, North Carolina; the earlier gas station shootings discussed here were in LaGrange, Georgia. In March 2025, two people were seriously injured in a shooting at a gas station in the city on a Friday night, as reported by Atlanta News First. That shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. when officers were called to 828 N. Greenwood Street, home to a Shell gas station and food mart.
An even more violent episode unfolded in August 2023, when a gas station shooting in LaGrange, Georgia, left one person dead and three others injured, Atlanta News First reported at the time. Police investigators believed an argument inside the gas station had kickstarted that shooting.
The 2023 Shooting Ended in a Life Sentence
That 2023 case was later tied to the killing of 22-year-old Laderek Tayshun Ferguson, who was fatally shot at a 76 gas station at 315 New Franklin Road in LaGrange, Georgia, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Surveillance footage showed Ferguson buying a drink inside the store just before midnight when the ambush occurred.
A Troup County jury convicted Dorian Jaquaylen Malik Darden, also known as “PsyCo,” of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and two counts of violating the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Senior Superior Court Judge Fletcher Sams sentenced Darden to life in prison without the possibility of parole, followed by 40 years.
No details connecting Sunday's shooting to either of the earlier incidents have been released, and the current investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the latest case has not been given a specific way to come forward, as authorities have not released additional contact details beyond confirming the inquiry is ongoing.
